A one day seminar entitled “Advancement in Pharmaceutical Technology” was organized by the department of Pharmaceutics at Oriental college of Pharmacy. This seminar was aimed at enlightening the graduate and post graduate students about the current updates in the field of pharmaceutical technology in order provide value addition and upgrade their skills in formulation development. The seminar constituted lectures from eminent experts in pharmaceutical industry who shared their experiences and knowledge and provided guidance towards the current scenario and future trends in the field of pharmaceutical technology.

The seminar started in a traditional manner by lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries’ viz. chief guest for the day Dr. Milind Wagh, speakers for technical session, principal of Oriental College of Pharmacy and the co-coordinators for the seminar. The Principal of Oriental College of Pharmacy and convener for the seminar, Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Rathod gave the keynote address. It was a proud moment for Oriental College of Pharmacy since one of the eminent faculties Dr. Mohib Khan, Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy published a book entitled “Natural Product Chemistry” on the very same day. This book was inaugurated by Chief Guest for the day Dr. Milind Wagh; Professor of Pharmaceutics at NDMVP College of Pharmacy, Nashik and associated with Career publications, the publisher of this book. The book is of utility for students undertaking M.Pharm programme as well as those in the field of research and development of natural products. After the book release, Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Rathod welcomed the dignitaries with floral bouquets.

The first speaker for technical session was Dr. (Mrs.) Chhanda Kapadia, Vice president Technical, Gattefosse India Pvt Ltd. She gave an overview of various lipid excipients used in the Pharmaceutical Industry and their applications as solubilizers, surfactants, nanoparticle excipients, controlled release excipients in the Pharmaceutical industry. The second speaker for the day was Dr. Ashok Omray, President, Ideal cures Pvt Ltd. The main focus of his talk was various ICH guidelines and their implementation in the industry & stability testing of pharmaceutical products. He gave a wonderful insight into the stability protocols and their acceptable limits as per industry standards, with a detailed description of ICH guidelines and their importance in validation and quality control of products.

After a sumptuous lunch, the third lecture started with an informative session on ‘Quality by design” by Mr. Deepak Singh, Deputy Manager, Business development, Gansons Pvt Ltd. He gave a detailed description of various techniques, procedures, plots etc. used in the pharma industry for product finalization and optimization. He also gave an important insight of the regulatory hurdles related to QBD in the industry and ways to overcome the same.

The technical session was followed by a poster/model presentation session which received an overwhelming response owing to huge participation from student delegates. There were in all 32 posters which included research/reviews on advances in Pharmaceutical Technology as well as natural products. The posters were evaluated by the judges on the basis of questions and answers by the judges as well as the technical matter on the poster and its presentation. The students with best posters were awarded with 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes and 3 consolation prizes.

The seminar ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. (Mrs.) Shruti Wagle, co-ordinator of the seminar and national anthem.
